Q Grader Preferred
Location: Central Massachusetts
Fractional/Part-Time
JNP Coffee is seeking a highly organized, quality-focused Quality Control Coordinator to own the day-to-day coffee quality function for our specialty green coffee operations in Central Massachusetts.
If you care deeply about coffee quality, notice the details others miss, and take pride in making sure everything is accurate, organized, and followed through, this is an opportunity to play a central role in how JNP Coffee cultivates and maintains the quality of its coffees from origin to final customer.
You must have experience with coffee cupping and sensory evaluation and be comfortable working with green coffee quality. You must also be highly organized and operationally dependable. One part of your day may involve evaluating an arrival sample and recording sensory results. Another may involve leading a client cupping and advising a roaster on how to best use or apply one of our coffees.
The challenge in this position is discipline and consistency. You will be responsible for all coffee quality control functions, including green coffee evaluation, sensory analysis, quality documentation, sample management, cuppings, and ongoing quality monitoring. You must be proactive about identifying issues and opportunities, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and practically obsessed with cleanliness, organization, and quality.
Who You Must Be
- Passionate and knowledgeable about specialty coffee, with a strong commitment to quality.
- Experienced and confident in coffee cupping, sensory evaluation, green coffee grading, and physical quality analysis.
- A Q Grader or similarly qualified coffee quality professional; Q Grader certification is strongly preferred
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and disciplined about accuracy, documentation, and follow-through.
- Someone who notices when something doesn’t look or taste right—from a cup profile to a sample, lot number, or inventory count—and follows through to understand why.
- Proactive about identifying and resolving issues while recognizing opportunities to improve quality and coffee applications.
- Confident leading cuppings and communicating sensory findings clearly with roasters, customers, colleagues, warehouses, and external partners.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the coffee quality function from evaluation through resolution.
- Hands-on and comfortable maintaining strict QC protocols, cleanliness, organization, and sample management in a coffee lab environment.
- Comfortable working with CRM and ERP systems.
- Experience with East African coffees, particularly coffees from Burundi, is a plus.
- Able to reliably commute to Central Massachusetts and legally eligible to work in the United States.
What You Will Do
- Own all coffee quality control functions, including green coffee evaluation, sensory analysis, quality monitoring, documentation, and identification of quality concerns and standout coffees.
- Run JNP Coffee’s coffee lab and cupping program from our Worcester-area location, maintaining appropriate standards, protocols, equipment, cleanliness, and sample organization.
- Manage coffee samples throughout the quality process, including receiving, preparing, roasting, cupping, documenting, and maintaining samples at the parchment, pre-shipment, and arrival levels.
- Manage sample shipments to prospects and customers, ensuring samples are accurately prepared, labeled, documented, and delivered on time.
- Support Sales in customer and prospect cuppings, including coordinating and leading cuppings both at our facility and at client locations as needed.
- Advise roasters and customers on coffee application, using your knowledge of quality, processing, and sensory characteristics to help identify the right application (single origin, micro-lots, blends, etc.)
- Maintain accurate quality and sample records and ensure information is current and accessible to the internal team.
- Identify quality concerns, inconsistencies or opportunities; proactively communicating findings and following through to resolution.
- Collaborate with the internal team and external partners to ensure coffees are handled appropriately throughout the process.
- Serve as JNP Coffee’s go-to resource for coffee quality, bringing a high level of discipline, curiosity, and attention to detail to everything related to the quality of our coffees.
