The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and customer training related to Melitta automatic espresso equipment. This role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to deliver exceptional customer service in the field.
This is a highly travel-intensive role requiring frequent local travel, overnight travel, and occasional support outside of the assigned service territory. The Field Service Technician serves as a key representative of Melitta and is expected to maintain professionalism, technical excellence, and responsiveness while supporting customer equipment needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Service & Technical Support
- Respond promptly to assigned service calls and meet expected response time requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance on automatic espresso equipment in accordance with Melitta service standards.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operational issues and complete repairs efficiently.
- Install new equipment and ensure proper functionality prior to customer handoff.
- Test equipment following repairs to verify performance and operational readiness.
- Escalate complex technical issues when additional support is required.
2. Customer Support & Training
- Provide professional communication to customers regarding services performed, repair recommendations, and equipment status.
- Train customers on proper equipment operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting practices.
- Deliver a high level of customer service while maintaining positive customer relationships.
- Serve as a professional brand representative during all customer interactions.
3. Documentation & Inventory Management
- Accurately document all service activities, repairs, parts usage, and completed work orders.
- Close service calls and complete required reporting in a timely manner.
- Maintain inventory of service parts, tools, supplies, and company-issued equipment.
- Ensure company property, including mobile devices and tools, is properly maintained and secured.
4. Vehicle & Territory Management
- Maintain company vehicle in clean working condition and ensure required maintenance is completed on schedule.
- Manage assigned service territory and provide support in other service areas as needed.
- Travel overnight within and outside assigned territory as business needs require.
- Support overtime, weekend, and holiday service rotations as needed.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain safe work practices.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain a professional appearance consistent with company guidelines.
- Perform all duties in compliance with company policies and operational standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical certification, apprenticeship training, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of field service technician experience or related technical service experience preferred
- Ability to successfully complete Melitta service technician certification training
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that meets company insurance requirements
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic aptitude

Physical Requirements
Ability to:
- frequently stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces;
- reach overhead and maneuver equipment components during repairs;

- drive for extended periods of time, including nighttime and adverse weather conditions;
- perform visual inspections and identify equipment irregularities; and
- hear equipment performance issues and diagnose operational concerns.
