Title: Managing Director, Cup of Excellence
Directly Reporting to: ACE/COE Executive Director
Salary: Depends on Experience, Full Time, Salaried Position
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Managing Director of Cup of Excellence is a key position, responsible for all management, operations and logistics support for the Cup of Excellence competitions. This position requires an international specialty coffee background, professional cupping ability, knowledge and experience with specialty coffee supply chain issues, project management skills. Position based in Portland, Oregon or remotely will be considered.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall Program management for COE competition in all countries
- Ability to ensure financial sustainability and program growth
- Assist local country partners to recruit farmer competition entries
- Primary liaison with COE country coordinators and head judges
- Assist in updating COE program and head judge contracts
- Manage competition schedules and activities
- Organize and facilitate international judges
- Identify opportunities for improvement, propose and implement improvements for competition process
- Analyze historical COE information
- Assist, uphold and oversee implementation of all competition standards
- Maintain competition manuals for coordinators, head judges and auditors
- Create COE training video for producers
- Assist and help implement training of head judges on upgraded standards and cupping form applications
- Responsible for on boarding new countries
- Assist with COE adaption to country needs
- Analyze market for additional COE competitions
- Reviewing and approving equipment needs
- Assist in institutional and industry foundation support
- Manage additional projects as assigned by Executive Director
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Experience with coffee sensory skills
- Proficiency with all Microsoft Office suites, Google Suite
- Knowledge of website editing preferable
- Strong Excel skills (including Pivot tables, V-lookups, statistics and basic formula writing)
- Not afraid to work with data: collect data, establish facts and forecast tools
- Familiarity with specialty coffee supply chain from producer through purchasing fulfillment
- Project management experience required, projects in developing countries a plus
- Specialty coffee production and quality control experience a plus
