Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Operations Manager to oversee and optimize our client's tea importing business operations. The ideal candidate will manage and optimize our operational team to meet our business goals.  Targeting someone with proficiency in sales forecasting, knowledge in cloud inventory systems, and a proven track record in planning strategic buying initiatives. This role will work closely with the Procurement Director and Production Manager to ensure seamless daily operations, maintain efficient inventory systems, and navigate complex legal importing requirements.  

Responsibilities:

Inventory Management 

•              Lead and mentor a team of operations staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

•              Oversee the implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of our new cloud inventory system 

Sales Forecasting and Demand Planning

•              Develop and implement advanced sales forecasting models, incorporating historical data, market trends, and seasonal factors specific to the tea industry

•              Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to align forecasts with promotional activities and new product launches

•              Utilize predictive analytics to anticipate market shifts and adjust operational strategies accordingly

•              Conduct regular forecast accuracy assessments and implement continuous improvement measures

 Strategic Buying Initiatives

•              Collaborate with the Procurement Director to develop and execute strategic buying plans that align with sales forecasts and operational capabilities

•              Analyze market trends, pricing data, and supplier performance to identify optimal purchasing strategies

•              Implement a robust supplier evaluation and selection process, considering factors such as quality, reliability, and sustainability

•              Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure favorable terms and priority access to premium tea varieties

•              Develop and implement cost of goods sold (COGS) strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining product quality

•              Collaborate with finance team to ensure accurate costing and pricing of tea products

Required Qualifications

•              Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field

•              3+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in the specialty tea, coffee, or import/export industry

•              Deep proficiency in cloud based inventory systems, particularly modules related to inventory management, supply chain operations, and managing costs  

•              Proven track record in sales forecasting and demand planning, with demonstrable success in improving forecast accuracy

•              Management experience supporting warehouse teams in person and managing dynamic remote teams in supporting the culture and cultivating a positive work environment.  

•              In-depth knowledge of inventory management systems and best practices

•              Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities

•              Expected to work in our headquarters in Chicago 3 days a week
