The Production roaster is responsible for production roasting, cupping QC/QA, equipment maintenance and upkeep, and order fulfillment as needed. This is a full-time non-exempt position working various shifts per week. This position will work between the Littleton cafe and Denver warehouse, and must have reliable transportation to complete the transport of roasted coffee between the locations.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Roast as needed on all production systems; Giesen, Diedrich, San Franciscan and Sample Roaster
Develop working knowledge of all roasting systems (mechanized, electrical, and digital)
Perform in daily/weekly roaster maintenance and cleaning needs
Participate in green coffee inventory and unloading of palletized green coffee and maintain cleanliness and organization of roasting and green storage areas
Stay updated on current coffee offerings and upcoming fresh crop arrivals, keeping appropriate systems updated (Cropster, Monday.com, etc)
Communicate with production supervisor regarding order fulfillment, roasting, and maintenance
Quality control assessment at the roaster and cupping table. Regular and systematic cupping of production roasts and use of Cropster RI Software and color reader to evaluate roast degree
Analyze roast profiles and works with Head Roaster to establish new ones as needed
Perform sample roasting and cupping evaluation for quality control and purchasing needs
Support a collaborative environment through engagement with production team and shop staff
Actively works to grow coffee knowledge via on the job training and personal study
Conduct occasional public cuppings as needed
Fill in on the production team as needed
Will assist in training and onboarding of new production and roasting staff as needed

Minimum 2 years of production roasting experience required
Must love coffee and actively seek to grow in coffee knowledge and experience
Possess desire for cupping and sensory skill sets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Basic mechanical skills; willingness to learn as needed for equipment maintenance
Ability to work well both within a team and independently
Must be approachable, mindful, and positive
Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and make adjustments in any situation
Open availability and flexible with the work environment. The roastery temperature fluctuates with the seasons, and volume is variable.
Ability to multitask in a demanding work environment
Previous experience in sourcing and green buying preferred, but not required
Minimum 2 years of structured cupping experience
