Position Summary:
Assists with the daily operations of manufacturing in the areas of green receiving, blending, roasting, grinding, and packaging and leads managers and supervisors in the planning and execution of goals to help ensure the success and is responsible for driving manufacturing strategies set by the Senior Director of Manufacturing. The person in this role will lead and mentor Ops teams to drive a “best in class” culture and help foster engagement initiatives.
Job Duties:
Plant Management:
- Reviews and helps implement recommended improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working condition.
- Leads department efforts across shifts and with other departments and functions, focused on meeting First Time Quality initiatives
- Collaborates with all departments as projects relate to product execution and efficient manufacturing (teams include R&D, Inventory Control, Logistics/Material Handling, Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Commodities, Quality, Maintenance)
- Participates in new product tests and blend requests during the NPD stage gate and planning
- Assists with the establishment of plant controls to include budgets, costs, product yield, and operating plans to obtain maximum production at minimal cost
- Coaches and helps develop front-line teams, as well as managers and supervisors, to result in a high-performance culture (assists with performance initiatives, operational effectiveness, company loyalty / job satisfaction – while driving the MZB Way)
- Engage with teams across all three shifts and weekend crews as needed
- Ensures production operations are conducted in a safe and clean working environment – complying with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Operational Excellence:
- Responsible for driving process improvements and best practices across the supply chain to achieve operational efficiencies at minimal cost, to include safety, quality, material handling, processing, packaging
- Subject matter expert for new tools, technologies, lean concepts, management, labor management systems and enhancements
- Enable Operational Excellence by identifying and developing best practices across organization on key initiatives for productivity, customer service and safety
- Determine benchmarks for each department, develop plans for incremental improvement, and measure progress for reporting and potential corrective action
- Implement lean practices for manufacturing by communicating initiatives including instructions and guidance for productivity improvement processes
- Provide training to field level managers on all processes and systems within manufacturing including new application and systems
- Troubleshoot with local management on questions and finds solutions for problems.
- Report key performance indicators on productivity and outstanding issues of process improvement initiatives to senior management
- Partner with supply chain teams, finance operations, and other departments to support the entire manufacturing operation
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years in a plant leadership role; this includes operational excellence or process improvement experience in a CPG environment
- BA/BS Degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience
- Experience with Total Asset Utilization a must
- Formal 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing training
- Excellent leadership skills
- Strong verbal, written, and communication skills; with strong presentation skills
- Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to prioritize multiple high-level projects and meet tight deadlines
- Must be able to work independently, as well as maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coach team members; experience achieving results through others
- Experience in partnering with HR in the areas of employee relations (to further assist and ensure procedures are followed)
- Quality orientation and attention to detail a must
