Job Description

The Position Analyst / supply chain specialist role can be broadly divided into two categories: position management and supply chain coordination.


Position Management

In order to source the best coffees on the planet and deliver them to roasters around the world, Café Imports needs a strong risk management program. The position analyst will assist in managing Coffee Market risk and foreign currency risk, and performing daily and monthly position reconciliations and audits.


Supply Chain Coordination

This role works closely with our green-coffee buyers and fellow supply chain specialists to write purchase contracts and facilitate the transportation of coffees from producing countries (aka origins) to their final destinations as efficiently as possible. Each supply chain specialist is responsible for an assigned set of origins.



  • Review and execute purchase and sale price fixations
  • Minimize coffee futures market and foreign currency price risk exposure
  • Compile daily risk management reports and perform audit checks (FX and C Market).
  • Compile monthly and quarterly risk reporting
  • Escalate unique trading situations to senior Risk Manager
  • Enter new purchase contracts into our inventory management system
  • Audit contract information provided by green-coffee buyers
  • Determine landed contract values
  • Issue shipping instructions
  • Communicate with suppliers/shipping lines/brokers to ensure that coffees are shipped on schedule
  • Troubleshoot shipping issues
  • Review all incoming logistics documentation
  • Confirm proper certifications have been obtained for Fair Trade– and organic-certified coffees
  • Participate in purchase planning with green-coffee buyers before and during harvest season



  • Strong basic math skills
  • Strong scenario analysis skills (analyze scenarios and take appropriate action)
  • Multitask and prioritize urgent tasks effectively
  • Ability to communicate with multiple parties in a clear and concise manner across communications platforms (e.g. e-mail, phone)
  • Fluency in English
  • Critical thinking
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Bachelor’s degree



  • 2+ years of work in commodities, supply chain or other related experience
  • Proficiency in Spanish or other foreign language
