Job Summary:

The Roastery Manager ensures that WRC’s coffee is of high quality, are roasted carefully, and are consistently delicious. They are also responsible for managing a team of coffee roasters, production assistants, eCommerce, wholesale, and other terminals from our roastery. They showcase the storied nuance of their origin and adhere to the values and mission of WRC.


Daily Tasks and Projects:

  • Source quality single origin green coffee matching WRC standards in a sustainable, conscientious and economical way
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with farmers and importers
  • Develop and maintain optimal roast profiles for all coffees
  • Serve as a storyteller to cultivate passion and product knowledge by communicating with internal and external stakeholders in a positive and professional manner
  • Build and maintain engagement of the Roastery Team by providing excellent leadership
  • Creation, planning, and execution of seasonal coffees in coordination with product managers
  • Assist coffee team as needed with sensory analysis and insights
  • Consistently meet business objectives while staying on budget


Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner
  • Advanced knowledge of coffee cupping and tasting with familiarity with the SCA Coffee flavor wheel
  • Keen understanding of roast profiling with ability to assess and score roasted coffee
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Excel, Cropster, eCommerce systems, and inventory management preferred
  • Meet physical requirements: This job consistently requires standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 75 pounds regularly. Ability to safely operate powered equipment (forklift, power jack, powered tools, etc.) is required.


Required Education, Certification, or Experience:

  • 3+ years of coffee roasting experience including sample roasting, roast profiling, and equipment maintenance
  • Experience in green coffee handling, and supply chain partnership
  • 2 years of people and product management experience in any field
  • CQI or equivalent education preferred
  • Texas Food Handlers Certification (within 30 days)


Compensation and Benefits:

  • $45,000 - $55,000 annual salary, based on experience
